KLM Suspends Uganda Flights Amid Ebola-Related Travel Restrictions

Dutch airline KLM has temporarily suspended flights to and from Uganda’s Entebbe International Airport following international travel restrictions linked to the ongoing Ebola outbreak in Central Africa.
The airline announced that although Uganda is not currently classified as an active Ebola risk zone, new entry and transit measures introduced by several countries have complicated flight operations. The restrictions affect travelers who have recently passed through Entebbe, including airline crew members, making it difficult for KLM to maintain its scheduled services.
Flight tracking data shows that at least two KLM flights operating between Amsterdam and Entebbe, with a stopover in Kigali, Rwanda, were cancelled over the weekend and early this week. The carrier said it is closely monitoring developments and assessing possible options for future operations.
The suspension comes as countries around the world tighten health screening and travel requirements in response to the Ebola outbreak affecting parts of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Several governments have introduced enhanced screening procedures and restrictions for passengers who have recently traveled through affected areas.
Uganda has also implemented a series of preventive measures, including restrictions on cross-border movement with the Democratic Republic of Congo and the temporary suspension of some transport services, as authorities work to contain the spread of the disease.
KLM’s decision highlights the growing impact of health-related travel measures on international aviation, with airlines across the region adjusting schedules and operations as governments continue to respond to the evolving Ebola situation.
