Register persons living with albinism- Kadaga

The speaker of the Uganda’s parliament rt. Hon. Rebbeca a. kadaaga has directed the government to register all persons living with albinism according to her it’s improper for the NGO to register persons living with albinism in the country. She added that it will be vital if the next censuses also are considered, she made this remarks while open up of the parliamentary week which started yesterday and it will end on Friday with the debate of the public in the parliamentary chambers. In the same line he has welcomed the idea of religious leaders of calling for the marriage bill; according to her this is a vital moment and she advised the new minister for constitutional affairs to take up the mantle from where it stopped. For her to come out it was after the call of Pr. Sserwadda that it’s high time for the parliament to resurrect the marriage bill according to him he thinks that its one of the challenges the church is facing at the moment. The Uganda law reform commission re drafted the marriage and divorce bill including changing the name from it to marriage bill and even changing several articles of the bill The Marriage Bill, 2017 seeks to to consolidate and repeal the following existing familylaws: the Customary Marriage (Registration) Act (Cap. 248); the Divorce Act (Cap. 249); the Hindu Marriage and Divorce Act (Cap. 250); the Marriage Act (Cap. 251); and the Marriage of Africans

The objective of this Bill is to reform and consolidate the laws governing marriage, provide for the types of marriage, marital rights and duties arising from marriage, grounds for and divorce and other connected matters. The Bill is an attempt to: align the law on marriage with the Constitution of Uganda; to consolidate the laws on marriage; to reflect in our law, the socio-economic realities of Uganda; and to breathe life into rulings of Ugandan courts on matters of maintenance, grounds for divorce, bride price, widow inheritance and parental consent. The Speaker then launched the bill tracking mobile APP, Bungeni that will enable the MPs and Public to track progress of bills and also make comments on them before they are passed into law and according to her this will work as the public waits for the parliament radio station “We have a radio station here but the Government has refused to give us a frequency. We have frequencies in this city which are not being used but we can’t get it.” Kadaga said.
