Iran Claims Strike on U.S. Base Following Fresh American Military Action

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said Thursday that it had targeted a United States military base in the Middle East in response to new American strikes on Iranian military positions, marking another sharp escalation in tensions between Tehran and Washington.
According to Iranian state-linked media, the retaliatory action came hours after U.S. forces reportedly carried out strikes near Bandar Abbas in southern Iran. Iranian officials described the American operation as an act of “aggression” and warned that any further military action would trigger a stronger response.
The U.S. military confirmed it had conducted what officials called “defensive strikes” targeting Iranian drone infrastructure and military sites believed to pose threats to American personnel and commercial shipping routes near the Strait of Hormuz. Reports indicate that several Iranian drones were intercepted during the operation.
Iranian authorities did not immediately disclose the exact location of the American base allegedly targeted, though regional security alerts were heightened in several Gulf countries following the incident. Some reports indicated that missile and drone interception systems were activated in parts of Kuwait and neighboring states.
The latest exchange comes amid fragile diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions after months of military confrontations involving Iran, the United States, and regional allies. Analysts warn that continued retaliatory strikes could further destabilize the Gulf region and threaten global energy markets, particularly shipping through the Strait of Hormuz — a critical route for international oil supplies.
Oil prices rose sharply following reports of the renewed clashes, as investors feared possible disruptions to maritime trade and energy exports.
Despite ongoing indirect negotiations, both Tehran and Washington continue to accuse each other of violating ceasefire understandings established earlier this year.
Regional governments have urged restraint while international observers warn that miscalculations between the two sides could rapidly spiral into a broader conflict.
