THAI COURT HANDS DEATH SENTENCES TO TWO MEN OVER DEADLY BANGKOK SHRINE ATTACK

A court in Thailand has sentenced two men to death for their roles in the 2015 bombing at Bangkok’s Erawan Shrine, one of the deadliest attacks in the country’s history.
The explosion, which struck the popular religious and tourist site in central Bangkok on August 17, 2015, killed 20 people and left more than 120 others injured. Victims included several foreign visitors, among them tourists from China.
After a trial that lasted more than a decade due to legal and procedural delays, the court found the two defendants guilty of multiple offences, including premeditated murder and attempted murder. Prosecutors said the evidence linked the pair to the bombing operation.
Both men denied the charges and have indicated they will appeal the ruling through Thailand’s legal system.
The attack shocked Thailand and triggered one of the country’s largest criminal investigations. While authorities have long maintained that the bombing was connected to networks linked to the Uyghur minority, questions surrounding the motive and wider involvement of other suspects have continued for years.
The Erawan Shrine, a major landmark in Bangkok, was quickly rebuilt after the attack and remains a popular destination for worshippers and tourists.
