Trump Defends Expanded White House Ballroom Project as Costs Near $400 Million

President Donald Trump’s proposed White House ballroom project has grown significantly in both scale and cost over the past year, with the estimated price tag rising from $200 million to nearly $400 million as plans for the facility continue to expand.

The project, which is being built on the site of the former East Wing, was initially presented as a major addition to the White House complex intended to host state functions, official meetings, and large ceremonial events. However, revised plans have substantially increased the size of the development, prompting renewed debate over its scope and funding.

Speaking recently at the White House, Trump said the ballroom had been enlarged after planners determined the original design would not adequately meet future requirements. According to the president, the facility has effectively doubled in size compared with the initial proposal while remaining on schedule for completion.

The expanded project is expected to accommodate significantly larger gatherings, including state dinners, diplomatic events, and future presidential inaugurations.
