Manchester United Reach Agreement to Sign Atalanta Midfielder Ederson

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Italian club Atalanta to sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson in a deal worth an initial £35 million.

The 26-year-old is expected to become the first major signing under United manager Michael Carrick, with the transfer also including performance-related add-ons that could increase the overall value of the deal. Reports indicate that personal terms have been agreed, with Ederson set to sign a contract running until June 2030, alongside an option for a further year.

The move remains subject to a medical examination and the completion of final paperwork. The transfer is expected to be formally completed during the summer transfer window.

Ederson has established himself as one of Serie A’s most consistent midfielders since joining Atalanta from Salernitana in 2022. Known for his defensive qualities, energy and ability to operate as a box-to-box midfielder, he has made 180 appearances for the Bergamo-based club, scoring 16 goals and providing six assists.

The Brazilian international has earned three senior caps for Brazil and was part of the Atalanta squad that won the UEFA Europa League in the 2023-24 season.

Manchester United have been seeking midfield reinforcements following the departure of Casemiro, and Ederson has been identified as a key target to strengthen the squad ahead of the new campaign. Reports suggest United continue to assess additional midfield options as they reshape the team for the upcoming season.

The transfer represents another significant move between the two clubs, with United previously signing players such as Rasmus Højlund from Atalanta. If completed as expected, Ederson will arrive at Old Trafford with considerable experience in Italian football and European competition.
