Uganda Promoted as Top Investment Destination at Harvard Conference

Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has highlighted Uganda as one of the most attractive investment destinations during her visit to the United States.
While addressing the Harvard Business School Africa Business Conference, Nabbanja noted that Uganda and the wider African continent offer significant opportunities for investors due to their rich natural resources, expanding markets, and rapidly growing digital ecosystems.

She emphasized that Africa’s economic transformation depends heavily on adding value to its raw materials as a pathway to industrialisation. According to the Prime Minister, Uganda is actively working to reduce the cost of electricity, labour, and transport in order to create a more investor-friendly environment.
“The backbone of any economy lies in affordable electricity, efficient transport systems, reasonable labour costs, access to finance, as well as peace and security,” she explained. “Lower production costs ultimately lead to higher profit margins.”

Nabbanja also urged African nations to take control of their development agendas and play a stronger role in shaping global discussions. She stressed the importance of unity and strategic direction, particularly in areas such as climate finance, debt negotiations, and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence.
Additionally, she pointed to Uganda’s participation in regional initiatives such as the East African Community and the African Continental Free Trade Area as key steps toward economic integration.
These efforts, she said, are helping transform Africa into a single market of more than 1.5 billion people with a combined GDP exceeding $3 trillion.
The conference, held under the theme “Owning Tomorrow: Africa’s Agency in a Shifting World,” brought together business leaders, policymakers, investors, and academics to discuss Africa’s future in a rapidly changing global landscape.
