NO FUNDS FOR ROADS RESERVE COMPENSATION LORD MAYOR

The government of Uganda has tasked the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to implore residents to donate feet of their land for the roads in Kampala to be constructed. This was stated in a letter sent by the Minister of Roads Katumba Wamala to the department after being asked to inform them which roads need to be constructed.

According to Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, the Ugandan government does not have enough money to compensate the residents except that from African Development bank to build roads

Lukwago’s comments came after the mayor  of Kawempe assured the residents that KCCA will not take anyone’s land without their consent but rather wait for them to give the feet of land willingly

This came after a one wealthy man in the area indentified as bossa did construct one of his buildings in a road reserve along Nsamba Road in kawempe some thing that has hindered the road construction

It’s estimated that the cost of the construction of a 1 kilometre road would cost 2billion and 900million shillings according to the allocation in the 2024/25 budget. However, most of the residents in the area failed to donate land for the construction of the road which would go next year.

The money from world bank and african development bank was given to uganda to build roads, not to compensate the people where the road will pass, therefore the government should find money if interested in finding money to compensate the people or ask them to give land for free
