Police establishes call centre in Arua City

Mugenyi however warned the public against misusing the call centre by giving false and misleading information.

Earlier, people in need of emergency police services from the region would call the central call centre in Kampala or call individual police officers for immediate intervention.

The regional call centre established this week will enable the police to revert all calls from the region to the call centre stationed at Arua City.

David Mugenyi, the officer in charge of regional call centre West Nile has confirmed that the emergency numbers 112 or 999 are fully operational.

He urged the community to embrace the service so that those in need are helped.

“The call centre is set, it is ready to handle everything, it is any emergency centre and toll-free, you are not charged for any call and we are ready to help you at any time whether day or night. I urge the community in the region to embrace the centre so that you can be helped on time,” Mugenyi said.

Mugenyi however warned the public against misusing the call centre by giving false and misleading information.

He said, as the police force, they are ready to receive any call from the region and will respond to the same.

“We treat all calls very important and urgent and we will respond to them, but we realised that there are unserious callers or those who give phones to children to disturb the police.

Although we shall respond to all calls if we realize, anybody uses the call centre to disturb the police, he/she shall be arrested and charged where necessary,” warned Mugenyi.

Mugenyi said they are going to work in collaboration with the CCTV cameras installed in the city and other areas to ensure that the crime rate in the region is minimized.
