NIRA Boss Urges Parents to Register Children for National IDs
The Executive Director of the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA), Rose Kissembo, has called on parents to prioritize registering their children for National Identification Numbers (NINs), emphasizing that this will support government planning and national development.
Kissembo made the remarks while attending a children’s talent and sports day at Miracle Destiny Schools in Kawempe.
She explained that the government introduced a system to register every Ugandan at birth as part of efforts to improve national planning and service delivery. She urged parents to take advantage of this initiative by ensuring their children are registered with NIRA.
Speaking during the event, Kissembo noted that it is important for children to be included in government systems early, as this helps in planning for their future needs.
She also encouraged parents to support their children’s participation in sports, saying it plays a key role in identifying and nurturing talent.
The school directors, Rose Nabudere and Robert Nabudere, emphasized that engaging children in sports helps to develop their abilities and talents. They added that parents play a crucial role in shaping the future of their children.
The event featured various activities including sack races, running competitions, tug of war, and bottle-filling games, among others.
At the end of the competitions, the Red team emerged as the overall winner and was awarded a trophy. Outstanding participants were also recognized with certificates.
