Uganda Opens New Industrial Frontier in Kayunga with Chinese Investment Deal

Uganda — In a significant step toward the country’s ambitious industrialization agenda, over 1,200 acres of land in Lusenke, Kayunga District have been allocated to Chinese investors, marking the beginning of what could become one of Uganda’s most transformative industrial hubs.

The development was announced as the State Minister of Finance for Privatization and Investment, Evelyn Anite, welcomed a high-level Chinese delegation led by industrial developer Paul Zhang. Zhang is known for spearheading projects such as the Tian-Tang Mbale and Mbalala Industrial Parks, which have attracted foreign manufacturers into Uganda, particularly in electronics, household goods, and mattress production.

Addressing the delegation, Hon. Anite praised President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his continued commitment to industrial growth, noting that the allocation of land in Kayunga reflects confidence in Zhang’s investment track record.

“Our vision is not just to dream of a $500 billion economy, but to turn that dream into reality,” she said. “We are focusing on practical investments that will transform our economy and create real opportunities for Ugandans.”

The Lusenke Kayunga Industrial Park is expected to anchor several large-scale projects, including a solar energy plant and a chemical manufacturing facility. These developments are projected to generate more than 200,000 jobs in the coming years, particularly for Uganda’s growing number of young graduates and skilled engineers.

Government officials emphasized that the initiative aligns with Uganda’s priority sectors, including agro-industrialization, tourism, mineral-based industries, and science and technology innovation—key drivers for value addition, export growth, and long-term economic resilience.

Strategically located near a hydropower station, the industrial park is expected to benefit from a reliable energy supply, a critical requirement for heavy manufacturing. Plans are also underway to develop supporting infrastructure around the park, including schools, hospitals, and shopping centers to serve workers and their families.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Lu Wei, Deputy General Manager of Shenzhen Mingyang Technology Company, expressed strong interest in establishing operations in Uganda. The company specializes in battery storage solutions aimed at supporting industrial power systems with stable and efficient energy supply.

As the meeting concluded, Hon. Anite called on Ugandans to support foreign investors choosing the country as their destination, highlighting the importance of partnerships in driving national development.

With land secured and investor interest growing, Lusenke in Kayunga District is poised to become a cornerstone of Uganda’s industrial future.
