Vipers Cruise Into Uganda Cup Quarterfinals With Dominant Win Over Iganga United

Vipers SC booked their place in the quarterfinals of the Uganda Cup after a commanding 4-0 victory over Iganga United on Wednesday night.

Playing under the floodlights at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende, the defending champions delivered a composed performance to comfortably dispatch the Eastern Regional League side.

Defender Hillary Mukundane was the standout performer, scoring twice, while second-half substitute Gusto Mulongo also netted a brace to seal the emphatic win.

Vipers took an early lead in the 9th minute when Mukundane rose highest to head home from a well-delivered corner by Yunus Sentamu.

Despite attempts by Iganga United to respond, Vipers remained solid defensively and controlled the tempo of the game.

The Venoms turned on the style late in the match, scoring three goals in the final ten minutes to put the result beyond doubt. Mulongo doubled the lead in the 83rd minute with a sharp finish before adding his second just three minutes later with a close-range header.

Mukundane then capped off a memorable night with his second goal in stoppage time, sealing a comprehensive victory for the hosts.

Vipers now join KCCA FC, NEC FC, Kitara FC, and Happy Boys Kagaba in the last eight of the competition.

The Round of 16 continues on Thursday with SC Villa set to face Maroons FC at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba.

The stage will conclude on Friday with a double-header at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, where Express FC will take on Red Devo, while URA FC face Tapoh FC.

With momentum building, Vipers will be eyeing a strong title defence as the competition heads into the decisive stages.
