Uganda to face Eritrea in CECAFA final

Hosts Uganda will take on Eritrea in the final of the 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup on Thursday after seeing off Tanzania in a closely-fought semi-final.

Uganda will be seeking to add to their record 14 titles under the current guise of the competition in what is recognised as the oldest national team tournament in Africa having first been played in 1926.

Eritrea will be hoping to make history with a first ever win, but will be underdogs having lost 2-0 to Uganda in the pool stages of the competition.

The Cranes sealed their passage to the final with a 1-0 success over Tanzania, the goal coming in the 88th minute via Fahad Bayo, after he had missed numerous opportunities to score beforehand.

Eritrea’s previous best finish was fourth in 1994, but they booked a final spot with a commanding 4-1 success over Kenya.

Kenya and Tanzania will meet for the bronze medal, with that game also to be played on Thursday.
