Uganda bid to host 2031 African Games

Uganda has submitted a bid to host the 2031 African Games, which would mark the country’s first time staging the continental competition. Sources confirmed that an inspection team is already in the country to assess the viability of the proposal, although rival bidders have not yet been disclosed.
The bid, prepared by the National Council of Sports, proposes Hoima City Stadium, the John Akii Bua Olympic Stadium (currently under construction) and Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, as host venues.
The Games are held every four years and are organized by the African Union in partnership with the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa and the Association of African Sports Confederations. First staged in 1965 in Brazzaville, Congo, the event is officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee as Africa’s premier continental multi-sport competition.
Uganda has competed in every edition of the Games since 1965 and has won a total of 87 medals, including 22 gold and 21 silver.
