ROWING AGM PROGRESSES AMID SQUABBLES

The current Uganda rowing federation executive has come under attack by members over what they called maladministration.

This was during the federation’s annual general meeting hosted at Uganda Olympic committee headquarters in Kampala.

The mood at the start of the Uganda rowing federation annual general meeting wasn’t one of camaraderie as members sought clarity on various issues from the Hamza Kaahwa led executive.

Members questioned the executive’s insistence that non-paid up clubs either quit the meeting or remain as observers.

Members that threatened a walk-out tasked the executive to prove payment status of the clubs they certified among a host of other inconsistencies.

This lasted a while but later consensus was reached and the meeting proceeded with representation from nine clubs including Maroons and UPDF.

For Uganda rowing federation to add to already qualified Kathleen Noble at the upcoming Olympics, federation president Hamza Kaahwa calls for discipline from the athletes.

Federation president Hamza Kaahwa seeks solutions to the problem of lack of rowing centers in order for members to benefit from the oars and ergometers acquired through various partners.

Clubs have been tasked to organize competition that will enable provide Uganda with quality rowers to contest the final Olympics qualifier in Switzerland in May.
