CHEPTEGEI SHINES AGAIN, PROMISES BETTER

Joshua Cheptegei’s star has continued to shine after being crowned Uganda athletics federation athlete of the year.

This was during the belated UAF awards gala hosted at shelaton hotel kampala.

No amount of words can describe Joshua Cheptegei’s performance in 2019.

It started with success at the world cross championship in Denmark and climaxed with the 10-thousand meters gold at the world athletics championship in Qatar.

In between those achievements, he excelled at the diamond league and was also unbeatable during various road runs.

With that CV, it came as no surprise when the lad from Kapchorwa was crowned Uganda athletics federation athlete of 2019.

Cheptegei’s journey has at some stage been tainted with gloom but determination and grit remained him standing and he hopes this will see him through a tricky 2020.

Others rewarded on the night spiced by MTN Uganda included woman athlete of the year Halima Nakayi, Oscar Chelimo-best junior male and Sarah Chelangat-best junior female.

There was also recognition to those that set new records including Leni Shida, Pius Adome, Felix Chemonges and Linet Chebet.

There is no time to rest for most of these athletes with focus on Sunday’s national half-marathon in Jinja.
