All set for Uganda International Badminton Championship 2020

The 15th edition of the Uganda International badminton tournament has officially been launched on Thursday, 13th February at National Council of Sports headquarters in Lugogo.

The event will be hosted at Lugogo Indoor Stadium from 20th- 23rd February and will attract 35 countries across the globe.

NCS General Secretary Dr. Bernard Ogwel confirmed that the government has fully support the event

“The government has fully provided funds and resources to the event. We are committed towards giving support to various sports activities in the country.”

Uganda Badminton Association CEO Simon Mugabi said that the championship will help players improve on their rankings as well as helping them qualify for Olympic games in Tokyo this year.

“This is championship is great for our players since it is going to help them improve on their rankings as well as helping them qualify for Olympic games in Tokyo this year”.

The participants start reporting on Monday 17th February 2020 and the famous countries include; Germany, England, Australia, Egypt, Nigeria and the hosts Uganda.
65 participants will come from the 34 foreign countries while Uganda will be represented by 99 competitors.

Seed one for Uganda in women, Aisha Nakiyembe will not feature tournament, currently trading in USA, Gladys Mbabazi, Brian Kasirye (seed one men), Kirabo Fred, Davis Ssenono, Amos Mayanja, Husina Kobugabe shall be among the 99 to lift Uganda’s flag.

There are five categories, men, women singles, Men and Women doubles and mixed doubles.
Since it’s a professional tournament, it has ten thousand US dollars ($100000) as prize money and it will be distributed amongst the winners.
