President Museveni meets pastors, evangelists

KAMPALA – President Yoweri Museveni has met Born-again Pastors and evangelists in Kampala.

During the Monday meeting, he promises to invite born-again leaders and ethics minister Fr. Simon Lokodo to discuss the Bill he is intending to introduce barring pastors without formal training to preach.

This was at Lugogo Cricket Oval.

Museveni asked the pastors to help government in fighting poverty by being extemporary by engaging in money-making ventures and also help in universal upliftment of people from poverty.

He said he had identified seven sectors that he wants the churches to help him implement, including fishing, coffee growing, zero grazing, poultry, fruit growing as well growing food crops such as bananas.

The President said he discourages growing of sugarcane, maize and cotton unless on a large scale.

In front of a large gathering, Museveni said some of his friends in 1986 had discouraged him from associating with so called biwempe churches, but that he followed the Biblical knowledge he had acquired in 1962, saying that ‘if they are not against us, then they are with us’.



Pastor Robert Kayanja of Miracle Centre Rubaga, who was in the company of his wife Jessica, asked the President to intervene after many followers complained against the Bill.

Over 50,000 pastors were invited from all districts of Uganda by Pastor Robert Kayanja, working with Bishop Joshua Lwere, who is the general overseer of the National Fellowship of Born again Pentecostal Churches of Uganda (NFBPC).

Among those in attendance were Presiding Apostle of the Born Again Faith Dr. Joseph Sserwadda and pastor Simeon Kayiwa.
