A total of 152 Junior Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Force (UPDF) have begun a four-month training course at the Lugore Training School under the UPDF 4 Infantry Division in Gulu District.

Officially opening the course, the Division Commander Maj Gen Felix Busizoori, commended UPDF leadership for decentralising training programmes to formations and lower levels, saying the move has strengthened professionalism across the Force.

“A professional soldier must train hard in order to fight effectively,” Maj Gen Busizoori said, emphasising that modern operations require mastery of key skills.

He said that training goes beyond technical skills, adding that it plays a critical role in shaping the character of a soldier.

Urging the trainees to remain resilient, he stressed the importance of completing the course. “Endurance is key. Those who successfully complete this training will be better positioned for future leadership roles, higher ranks and greater responsibilities,” he added.

The ceremony was attended by the School Commandant, instructional staff, staff officers and other invited guests.
